STATION AREAS

Over the past year, the SFECC Project Team has been meeting with the Regional Planning Councils, the three counties and the 29 communities along the FEC corridor to identify all possibilities for station locations. As of September 2008, 97 potential locations were identified. Eighty-seven were along the FEC Corridor between Jupiter and downtown Miami and ten were on potential connections between the FEC and CSX (Tri-Rail) corridors. The study team is now beginning a technical analysis to determine which of these locations function best based on a number of factors including potential ridership, transit-oriented land uses (existing and future), available space, traffic, environmental impacts and community preference. The study team welcomes public input regarding these potential locations.

In addition to identifying a comprehensive list of possible locations, the study team has developed a Station Typology which defines eight different station types. Each is intended to serve a different function and fit into a different type of community, ranging from low-investment neighborhood stations to large park-and-ride stations.
